The Need For Shelter
Geography- Stage One

Topic Outcomes
As we take a look around the world we see many cultures with different types of shelters. In this topic we will explore a shelter from each continent and the history behind their design. We ask questions such as, Why is it built this way? Is the shelter of cultural significance? What materials are they made of? How have they changed? This will be an exciting topic for students as they take in the differences in shelters acround the world.
We will also explore our own history of Aboriginal shelters and how they have changed since the beginning. Another great idea is being able to design and build our very own mini model of an Aboriginal shelter. There will be plenty of links and resources that will assist you in teaching this unit to your students. Have fun!
