Useful websites you can use;

Welcome to a fun and vibrant topic. Your students will love exploring the world and looking at all the different types of shelters. The first lesson will be an introduction of this topic, focussing specifically on shelters that are different and unique. A great way to start is to show the Youtube video below. You could also choose one of the books below to read for the next two lessons. This will get the students familiar with looking at different types of shelters.

Houses around the world

Mrs O'Neills First Grade

Development

Students are now ready to go in depth in to this topic. Choose a shelter from each continent and begin to explore and search for answers. The questions you will be asking for each shelter are;

- What are they made of?

- Is there a specific design to it?

- Why are they made this way?

- Does it suit the climate that it is in?

For a presentation of different shelters it is easier to make a powerpoint. You would have the name of the shelter or type of house, a picture of it, and key points that will help in answering the questions above.
